19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt
A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his first title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.
The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, winning just one match at the major tournaments and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.
The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serve in especial - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and eventually parting ways with long-time trainer Gilles Cervara.
Presently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Moutet.
This marks his maiden championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hard court from that period of that year.
Victory also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my children at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This championship is in tribute of my child her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his previous six finals, including in the German tournament in the past months.
His counter-punching play style and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had prompted observers to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was concluded.
However the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an better service.
He fought back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, securing four of the concluding five points to take the lead.
The pair traded breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden professional championship, gained dominance to push for a final set.
Moutet defended four early chances in a competitive final set before the Russian won the break to 15 to close out the victory.
Suitably, Medvedev earned the win with a point at the net, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
